General News

At the Pedal Car Olympics held at Thriftwood over the second weekend in January the West Horndon team claimed four podium places. The W.H.A.T. team took first place in the Team Relay; Jack Wentworth won the Endurance race; Sam Monk took 2nd in the driving skills and the team came 3rd overall in the Junior Section. The cold weather didn't put them off and if anything gave them a boost as the ground was hard. The team has taken part every year and improved their performance each time against a bigger entry pool. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the troop have already started planning their entry for 2010...

Tuesday 6th May

After I finished with Beaver Cubs, I have Cubs Scouts. Today was the day that I would invest 4 new Cub Scouts who joined our pack when it reopened in February. I am a GSL  formally a Venture Scout Leader and know little about investing Cub Scouts, and to my surprise John Alexander turned up looking for our YL, so my nervous reaction was …never mind the YL help me with my current problem, and he did and I feel we now have a new beginning at 3rd Brentwood Cub Scouts

Tuesday 6th May

3rd Brentwood Beaver Scouts went to Shenfield Common to record ancient trees as part of the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Hunt. We found an Oak that took five Beaver Scouts to put their arms around it. We think the it’s circumference is 5.5 MWhile we were on Shenfield Common we adopted a cuddly Beaver into our colony. We called him Brian…Whoops .. is that the name of our DC?Our Brian will be taken home each week by a Beaver Scout and cared for. He has a log book that has to be filled in by each Beaver Scout caring for Brian. His first big outing will be to Duxford, and as he has come with a red scarf (probably from North America) we will have to invest him, giving him the yellow and white scarf of 3rd Brentwood Scout Group
